I am not much of a believer in the significance of New Years. Frankly, it's just an arbitrary point in time that we picked to be the place where one year ends and the new one begins.

You can read that as my brother and I should not have existentialist debates under the influence of Tecate and homemade Mexican food.

Buuuuuuut in the spirit of boredom, I have chosen to copy the delightful zankoku-na-tenshi and do an ups-and-downs from 2K8.

Ze Ups:
:bulletgreen: Finishing When God Has Passed You By, the very first novel I've ever finished.
:bulletgreen: Discovering Teague's Artists of the Year -- Laura Marling, Mystery Jets, Noah and the Whale, The Ting Tings, The View, Eric Hutchinson, and so forth.
:bulletgreen: Making Copy Editor on the newspaper staff and not getting my soul eaten by the advisor.
:bulletgreen: Not sucking at being a JM on YWS.
:bulletgreen: Actually getting a clue when it comes to art. Not sucking as much as I thought I would. [life tip: set low expectations for yourself, you'll make them every time. xD]
:bulletgreen: Acquiring Puppy #3 and Cousin #95685096854896038. And no, that is not an arbitrary number. xD
:bulletgreen: Gaining the confidence to be confident with my family.
:bulletgreen: Learning that relying on outlines is better than just diving right in.
:bulletgreen: Learning to drive and not killing anyone!
:bulletgreen: Getting a short story published. :D
:bulletgreen: Cutting down on my swearing and other extremely irritating habits. Also, being less stupid than I was as a freshman/sophomore.

Ze Downs:
:bulletred: Losing my hamster, Speedy.
:bulletred: Mentally failing at life.
:bulletred: Not being able to not shake like a leaf as I gave my dad a couple short stories as a Christmas gift.
:bulletred: Intro to Art and Physics aaaaaaaangst. Because I fail.
:bulletred: My brother moving out. </3
:bulletred: My goddamn job. Those kids are a PAIN.
:bulletred: The progression of my OCD.

And I don't believe in resolutions, but I do intend on writing two novels this year, one of which I've already started. The City Lights Lovers and Fragile Little Things.

I am on a roll with titles.

ALSO.

I GET TO SEE CRAIG IN SEVEN DAYS.

AND I AM SO WAITING OUTSIDE THE VENUE AFTER THE SHOW TO SEE IF I GET TO MEET HIM

*squee*

Fun things this month:
-Craig show
-Creative Writing Club write-in #2
-Challenge Day
-Fiesta Bowl Parade followed by lunch at Macayo's (happiness: reigniting a family tradition and taking the new light rail system for it.)
-Zoolights
-Comicon

And why must the Mystery Jets CD be ridiculously expensive? xD Silly Brits. Zankoku, I feel your pain with the high cost of import CDs.

  • Mood: Sociable
  • Listening to: "Half in Love With Elizabeth" Mystery Je
  • Reading: The Sirens of Titan
  • Drinking: Nothing, actually.

Subject fail.

It's nearly half two in the morning right now and I must be completely BONKERS. I'm being dragged Black Friday shopping, and I should be sleeping, but that would make sense.

Got home from my grandmother's around eightish. Went straight to bed and slept until 11.45 (sans a half hour of irritating back pain until I nicked the heating pad from my dad). Got up to watch Craig and I decided that since I'm going to be woken up about two hours from the end of Craig, I might as well just stay awake. I have stuff to do.

[I just looked up and noticed the phrase "Journal Enhancements" in the top right and I thought of all those "male enhancement" spam e-mails I get.]

I'm kinda tired but not really? I'd like to go upstairs and do my history homework but I'm worried that I'll fall asleep which would not be good. Pretty much anything that I go do right now will make me fall asleep. I'd watch television but my brother is sleeping on the couch because he doesn't want to sleep in his room. Fine, Fuzzy. Ruin my plans. See what I care. >=[

Older siblings. Bah. He'll be twenty on Tuesday and he has his own place. SHOO.

Thanksgiving was... interesting, as it always is. xD Ohmyfamily. I love them [and they're good cooks!] but they're totally crazy. My uncle was in town from Wyoming and you could not find more of a redneck even if you looked in Georgia. He works on an oil rig and has a gap between his teeth as wide as the Grand Canyon. That should give you an idea.

My three-year-old cousin is cuter than yours. *nod* That's all I have to say, really. Also, his sister is hilarious. xD Laughs at everything and has the fitting nickname of Pork Chop. Poor girl. xD

My other uncle -- there were four present? xD Of many. -- just had surgery on his knee and refuses to walk on his crutches. It's kind of amusing and sad to watch him bunny hop around. And he went golfing! And he was playing with his dog and she's kind of an idiot of a yellow lab [seriously. stupid but spirited... way too spirited] and she ran into his leg and it was FUNNY. I was like, you've only got yourself to blame, sport.

Also, my dad's girlfriends kids. They irritate me. But it was pretty funny because one of them got a stomachache from eating too much and we all laughed uproariously because that's what's supposed to happen on Thanksgiving! We weren't laughing *at* him, really. But his sister got a stomachache too but didn't want to admit it because she didn't want to be laughed at. xD You totally can't be sensitive in my family. We're a tough bunch. A bucket of Irish rednecks who think they're Mexican. None of those groups are in any way touchy-feely. So if I ever seem overly abrasive, it's just how my family expresses love and I apologize. xD

I keep looking at the Listening To box and wondering what song I'll be on when I wrap up this pointless early-morning ramble.

Question Spontaneous +5: When does it stop being late night and start being early morning? Craig is late night and he ends at 1 a.m., half an hour later in other places. So... I'm thinking two or three a.m.? Hurm. Must look into that.

I love pineapple. My brother would understand that. xD

AND ZOMG. We had six kinds of pie at Thanksgiving. SIX. And a cheesecake but I don't like cheesecake. I had some Apple and Pumpkin pie and some Peppermint ice cream, which is actually really tasty. But the point is PIE! Pie is just... epic win of epic proportions. Really.

And my brother cannot cook bacon. He made breakfast for my mum, himself, and I. My mum likes her bacon crispy. And the genius electrical engineer that I call a brother made it crispy... like, of the blackened-and-smoking-and-should-not-be-edible variety.

Which wouldn't have happened if he had let me cook the bacon.

I'll probably look back on this after I've had some sleep and say, "Wow, I should not write journal entries at a quarter to three in the morning." But for now, I'm off to play Pokemon! I just got Diamond for my new Nintendo DS that I got for my 16th birthday which was Sunday. ^^ Go me.

Also, I just won NaNo. Hooray for me! =D
